Menold Bezler advises University of Stuttgart on procurement of supercomputers

Menold Bezler has advised the University of Stuttgart's High Performance Computing Centre (HLRS) on the procurement of two new supercomputers. The total cost of the supercomputer systems is around 115 million euros.

The new supercomputers "Hunter" and "Herder" will make top-level research at HLRS faster, more efficient and significantly more sustainable in two stages. In the first phase, Hunter will temporarily replace the existing Hawk system in 2025. This will be followed by the move to exascale with "Herder" by 2027. This will enable the extremely computationally intensive processes at HLRS to be run at high speed. The installation of these systems has been contracted to Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

The development of the system is part of the national strategy of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing, of which HLRS is one of three nationwide supercomputing centres. Half of the funding is provided by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and half by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

Menold Bezler advised HLRS in the structured negotiation procedure on procurement, contract, IT and data protection law.
