Menold Bezler advises the Josef Wund Foundation on the sale of its thermal spas to Therme Horizon

Menold Bezler comprehensively advised the Josef Wund Foundation on the sale of the Euskirchen, Sinsheim and Titisee-Neustadt thermal spas to Therme Horizon, a joint venture between the Therme Group and the private equity firm CVC Capital Partners. Completion of the transaction is subject to merger control approval.

Headquartered in Vienna, the Therme Group is an internationally active and leading developer, owner and operator of pioneering wellbeing infrastructures. Together with Therme Erding – the world’s largest thermal spa, which has already been acquired by Therme Horizon – four sites originally developed by Josef Wund will now be fully integrated into Therme Horizon. The Wund thermal spa group is regarded as one of Europe’s pioneers in the development and operation of thermal spa destinations. Following completion of the transaction, Therme Horizon will operate five thermal spas with a total of 5.3 million visitors per year.

The sale of the three thermal spas in Euskirchen, Sinsheim and Titisee-Neustadt will enable the Josef Wund Foundation to focus fully on fulfilling its statutory purpose in the future – allowing the general public to participate in the economic success of Josef Wund. The Foundation’s commitment to the common good is reflected in particular in its support for projects in the fields of education, health and creativity. Among many initiatives, the Josef Wund Foundation supports the talent development programme “Talent im Land”, in which the Menold Bezler Foundation is also actively involved as a sponsor and partner alongside the Baden-Württemberg Foundation.

Menold Bezler has advised the Josef Wund Foundation on all legal matters for many years. “We are pleased and grateful to have advised the Josef Wund Foundation with a highly experienced and well-coordinated team on the transfer of its thermal spa portfolio to an internationally successful corporate group, thereby contributing to the successful structuring of Josef Wund’s corporate succession and to the sustainable positioning of the Josef Wund Foundation for the benefit of the general public,” says Vladimir Cutura, Partner at Menold Bezler.
